Program Overview and Degrees
Utilizing an Open Academic Model, the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology emphasizes global partnerships in systems and enterprises related research and education with industry and government, to provide a highly relevant and rigorous educational experience. Stevens Systems Engineering graduate programs offer a multidisciplinary approach to engineering education by providing a blend of engineering, systems, and management subjects. The School of Systems and Enterprises is the largest provider of systems engineering education to the U.S. federal government and to defense-related industries worldwide.
Our graduates manage engineering and technology, are able to address systems integration, life cycle issues, and systems thinking at the system and enterprise levels, in a market where globalization, technology, quality, complexity, and productivity are the key business drivers.
Central to the School's world class systems engineering program, is its internationally recognized Systems Design and Operational Effectiveness (SDOE) program. Geared toward industry and government practitioners, the SDOE program provides a convenient flexible format, whereby students can attend classes held in an intensive one-week delivery format.
Master's of Engineering
Our Master's of Engineering in Systems Engineering requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of course work. A thesis and or project is required for the Systems Engineering and Enterprise Systems degrees.
An undergraduate degree in engineering or related disciplines with a "B" average or better from an accredited college or university is generally required for graduate study in our Master of Engineering. Outstanding applicants in other areas may be conditionally admitted subject to the satisfactory completion of several ramp courses or introductory courses within the specific program.
Graduate Certificates
The School of Systems and Enterprises offers several four course, 12-credit Graduate Certificate programs geared to practitioners and students who:
- Are interested in improving their current skills and technical competencies,
- Are considering new career paths within industry,
- Have been out of school for sometime, and want to resume their studies without committing to a full 30 credit Master's Degree program, or
- Already hold an advanced degree, but wish to continue their studies in a new or related area.
Credits earned in a Graduate Certificate can be applied toward a Master's Degree.

Doctoral Program
The program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is designed to develop your ability to perform research or high-level design in Systems Engineering. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is offered in Systems Engineering, with optional concentrations in Space Systems Engineering, Financial Engineering, and Software Engineering. Students are encouraged to meet every semester with members of their Dissertation Advisory (DAC) to collect feedback, and keep them abreast of their progress.
