My 2009 INCOSE Singapore Experience:
Lymari Castro, Winner of the 2nd Annual Stevens INCOSE Doctoral Research Competition
This year I had the privilege of winning the 2nd Annual Stevens INCOSE Doctoral Student Research Competition. The award consisted of a sponsored trip to attend the INCOSE 19th Annual International Symposium in Singapore. This year's event highlighted the importance of incorporating the human cognitive dimension as an integral part of Systems Engineering processes. Attending the INCOSE Symposium was a great opportunity to learn the efforts that are being conducted by the academia, the industry, and the government worldwide to enrich the Systems Engineering discipline. The conference provided an environment to meet Systems Engineering professionals from around the world and get their perspectives of how to improve the Systems Engineering discipline. The trip offered the unique opportunity to enhance both my knowledge of Systems Engineering and to learn and explore a new culture. Singapore was the ideal place to host this event since its cultural diversity and large population provides an example of the necessity of managing the human dimension in systems development to create an environment where many cultures can coexist in harmony while bringing progress to the country. During the conference I was able to support the Stevens booth, network with INCOSE members, and attend the various presentations. I strongly encourage other students to participate of this competition and obtain the great benefits of attending the INCOSE conference.
