SSE Engineering Management Senior Design Project Team wins Technical Communication Contest

The first annual Technical Communication Contest occurred on April 29, 2009 and provided an opportunity for Stevens Institute of Technology Senior Design Teams from a diverse range of disciplines to present their projects to a wider audience.  Participating teams were nominated from Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering and Engineering Management.

The winner of the inaugural Technical Communication Contest is Engineering Management’s Senior Design Team:

Municipal Energy Frontiers: Biodiesel raw material collection and distillation
Student team:  Mary Kelly, Gustaf Rath, Christopher La Pilusa, Mike Munley
Advisor:  Erik Hole
This contest was sponsored by Professor Deborah M. Sinnreich-Levi, Director of Writing and Communications at the Institute  (WCI), and the Engineering Information Foundation.  In recognition of the importance of being able to communicate innovation in science and engineering to the general public, the goal of the contest is to celebrate Senior Design Teams as much for their communication abilities as well as their technical knowledge.
The Engineering Information Foundation sponsors projects around the country to enhance communication and the use of information in engineering, and recently awarded Stevens a grant for communication workshops and events to further this goal.
