The 2009 winner of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) Doctoral Fellowship at Stevens Institute of Technology is Engineering Management Graduate Student Ana Lisbeth Concho. The award of full tuition and a stipend for the academic year 2009-2010 was based on Ms. Concho’s proposal on the development of screening strategies for container cargo, via the implementation of non-invasive technologies and operations research techniques that minimize the risk of allowing suspicious goods in the country through the Port-of-Entry while considering resources such as cost of inspection and labor. Ms. Concho's research will provide a comprehensive theory for quantitatively describing different inspection strategies as a decision model, as well as a set of evolutionary optimization algorithms when considering that different technologies with different characteristics can be used.
