Upcoming
Stevens to host the 2nd Internal Workshop on Cognition-Centric Systems. Leading research faculty at Stevens interested in areas highly relevant to the development and advancement of cognitive-centric systems and enterprises will gather on March 11, 2011 to share progress in their respective topics related to Cognition-Centric Systems. To learn more, contact Dr. Ali Mostashari and Dr. Babak Heydari.
Past
Stevens Institute of Technology held the first Internal Workshop on Cognition-Centric Systems on November 17, 2009 in response to an industry-sponsored initiative to learn more about how adaptive systems can be incorporated into the forefront of technology and engineering research. The ability of a complex system to adjust both allocation of resources and production output to the needs of its environment is critical to the sustainability and long-term value of an enterprise. An evolved system is able to adapt and react to its environment and make the appropriate changes - it becomes truly a "thinking" system. The capabilities that allow a system to sense changes in its environment, and then adapt accordingly, comprise its "cognitive" ability.
The Internal Workshop on Cognition-Centric Systems at Stevens provided a preliminary mapping of the terrain for Cognition - Centric Systems Engineering from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The workshop included Stevens’ faculty from departments such as electrical engineering and maritime systems and interested Lockheed Martin representatives. Participants were selected based on their expertise in the various disciplines of critical importance to the development of the field and presented research outlines on how to take significant steps towards cognition - centric systems.
